The first part of my thesis is a video entitled “Faeces II”. In the video I use acrylic colors to paint seagull faeces to different locations. This act has developed by the impact of intense emotions and tensions that have recently accumulated, as a result of which I created my own secret ritual. In the process, a situation arises where the painting of stools in a public space has a similar characteristics to street art, but the painted works are not noticed by a passer-by who is not aware of the situation. In that sense, I see this process as a ritual that is sacred to me and not meant to be for viewing for public. If you look at the seagull excrement individually it looks painterly and there is something expressive about it. The footage was filmed on the Spanish island, Tenerife. The second part of my graduation work is oil painting that represents seagull swallowing a rat. I use seagull figure, because I see similarities between their behaviors. Seagull is a predator and lives mainly on landfills and in places where human activity has increased. They came to Estonia in the beginning of last century thanks to industrial fishing, urbanization and bodies of water that are nutrient rich. Finland tried to kill 150 000 seagulls that lived on the landfill. As a result the population grew even more. Seagull can make sound similar to human. If they are hungry their song can be frightening. But if satisfied, their song can be beautiful – same goes with human beings. I painted seagull swallowing rat, beacause ROTT meaning a rat is the name of the painting department of Estonian Academy of Arts. Trough this image I swallow the rat to open a new chapter and move on with my life. There are also few stools painted in the gallery space. Audience has to be attentive to see them.
